Court Reporters
In the Alcovy Circuit, each judge has his own official court reporter.
Effective July 1, 2025, the Alcovy Circuit Superior Court Judges (Newton and Walton Counties) will no longer have a court reporter present for civil calendars.
Anyone desiring to have a civil matter taken down will be responsible for contacting the court reporter and making arrangements prior to the court date. There is a statutory per diem fee of $190.08 for 8 hours, which must be paid to the court reporter, as well as the actual cost of take-down. The per diem fee is divided among the number of cases for which take-down has been requested on any given day.
Requests for a court reporter must be made 48 hours in advance; requests for a Monday calendar must be made by the preceding Friday. Cancellations must be made at least 48 hours in advance; cancellations for a Monday calendar must be made by the preceding Friday. Failure to cancel on time may result in a cancellation fee of $100.00 if no other parties on the calendar have made arrangements for the court reporter’s presence.
