________

EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY
NOTICE TO ATTORNEYS RE: PREPARATION
FOR ALL SUPERIOR COURT CRIMINAL CALENDARS

The Court expects you to speak to your clients BEFORE you are called in front of a Judge.  It takes time out of the Court’s schedule to have attorneys called before the Judge and then ask for time to go and speak with their clients.  All Judges want this done PRIOR to the Judge taking the bench.  At least 30 minutes or more is wasted per person when the Court has to wait on attorneys to contact their clients during the actual calendar call, and it disrupts the flow of criminal court proceedings and the Court’s time and resources.”

The Georgia Department of Corrections has provided the information below related to Legal Conference requests for attorneys with clients in the prison system.

Calendars

Effective July 1, 2025, the Alcovy Circuit Superior Court Judges (Newton and Walton Counties) will no longer have a court reporter present for civil calendars.  Anyone desiring to have a matter taken down will be responsible for contacting the court reporter and making arrangements.  There is a statutory per diem fee of $190.08 for 8 hours, which must be paid to the court reporter, as well as the actual cost of take-down.  The per diem fee is divided among the number of cases for which take-down has been requested on any given day.

Requests for a court reporter must be made 48 hours in advance; requests for a Monday calendar must be made by the preceding Friday. Cancellations must be made at least 48 hours in advance; cancellations for a Monday calendar must be made by the preceding Friday.  Failure to cancel on time may result in a cancellation fee of $100.00 if no other parties on the calendar have made arrangements for the court reporter’s presence.
